United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a million-member organization of the United Methodist Church whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. The local unit of the First United Methodist Church meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at 9:30a.m. to learn about various church and community ministry and to plan for various ministries of mission. Currently there are three "circles" (smaller groups of the UMW members) of women who meet for fellowship at various times, once a month. All women are invited. For further information, contact Marcia Holmes at 668-5477 or Pat Johnson at 623-5446. To learn more about United Methodist Women nationally and internationally, go the UMC's General Board of Global Ministries' website (http://www.gbgm-umc.org) and link to the Women's Division.
Membership Classes
Those who wish to be members of First UMC need to attend a 3-6 week class which will introduce them to basic Christian and United Methodist church history and belief, as well as what it means to be a member of a church.
